Leading European architecture and engineering consultancy Sweco has strengthened its Belgian presence with the acquisition of CONIX RDBM Architects, a leading architecture firm with offices in Brussels and Antwerp. The move adds around 50 experts to Sweco’s team, enhancing the company’s capabilities in sustainable urban development and large-scale design projects.
The acquisition consolidates Sweco’s position in the Belgian market, where public and private sector investments are increasingly focused on low-carbon, resilient cities. CONIX RDBM Architects is known for delivering architecture, interior design, and master planning projects across offices, residential, education, healthcare, and mixed-use developments. Notable projects include the award-winning Herman Teirlinck building in Brussels, which utilised digital twin technology to optimise sustainability performance.

Strengthening sustainable urban expertise
Erwin Malcorps, Business Area President of Sweco Belgium, said, “It is with great excitement I welcome CONIX RDBM Architects to Sweco. This architectural firm has left its mark with high-quality projects that combine contemporary design with impressive sustainability performance. Together, we will offer advice to public and private sector clients, covering the entire lifecycle of urban transformation.”
CONIX RDBM Architects’ turnover was approximately €7.6m ($8.8m) in 2025, and its Belgian activities are expected to be consolidated into Sweco from 30 April 2026. The firm has previously collaborated with Sweco on client projects, demonstrating complementary expertise and shared commitment to sustainable design.
Strengthening Sweco’s position in Belgium

The latest acquisition follows Sweco’s earlier expansions in Belgium, including the addition of assar architects in 2025 and VK architects+engineers in 2023. These strategic acquisitions have broadened Sweco’s portfolio across multiple sectors, adding hundreds of experts and reinforcing the Group’s market position as a leading architecture and engineering consultancy in Europe.
Sweco has completed close to 170 acquisitions over the past 20 years, combining organic growth with targeted acquisitions to enhance its capabilities in sustainable design, urban development, and engineering consultancy. The company’s strategy in Belgium aligns with EU climate and urban policy frameworks, accelerating the transition toward energy-efficient, smart cities.
