Lumion introduces Lumion Pro 2026.0 with workflow-focused enhancements for architects

Netherlands-based developer of professional 3D architectural visualisation software, Lumion has released Lumion Pro 2026.0, the latest version of its flagship rendering platform used by architectural practices globally. The update centres on refinements designed to move projects from near-complete models to presentation-ready outputs with fewer manual interventions.

According to the company, the release builds on more than a decade of development aimed at supporting architects in translating design concepts into visual narratives. The 2026.0 version introduces targeted tools intended to streamline scene building, context placement and final output preparation.

“Lumion Pro 2026.0 builds on that foundation,” said David Weir McCall, Head of Product at Lumion. “It helps architects move from almost finished to presentation-ready with fewer interruptions and with greater control over the end result.”

Area placement and large-scale context creation

A key addition in Lumion Pro 2026.0 is the Area Placement Tool, designed to accelerate the population of large or irregular outdoor zones. Users can populate custom-shaped areas with up to 5,000 nature assets in a single action, across up to 20 asset types.

The tool allows practitioners to:

  • Target specific surfaces by selecting materials or grouped surfaces, such as lawns, planting beds or plazas.
  • Draw irregular shapes directly within a scene and generate a live density preview before confirming placement.
  • Adjust spacing, weighting and collision controls per asset type to manage distribution and overlap.

The objective is to reduce time spent hand-placing vegetation and context elements while maintaining controlled visual outcomes. The release notes indicate that improved preview functionality supports more predictable spacing and orientation before final placement.

Expanded nature library and refreshed context assets

The 2026.0 release expands Lumion’s asset library with more than 200 new and updated nature models. This includes 73 ultra-high-resolution photogrammetric trees and small plants, such as Common Oak, Mountain Ash and Silver Birch, alongside ground-layer vegetation including grasses, dandelions, yarrow and St John’s Wort.

An additional 31 new trees representing various growth stages have been introduced, including English Oak, Italian Cypress, Ginkgo Biloba, Douglas Fir and Eastern White Pine. The company states that this range is intended to support scale and maturity variations across site contexts.

Beyond new additions, 165 existing models have been refreshed:

  • 96 updated nature assets, including European Beech, London Plane, Scots Pine, Red Maple and Weeping Willow.
  • 69 revamped outdoor urban elements such as street lights, bus stops, bollards, awnings and fire hydrants.

The update introduces refreshed and newly detailed models directly within the asset library, reducing the need for further refinement during final presentation preparation.

Section visualisation, AI upscaling and presentation outputs

Lumion Pro 2026.0 introduces a Fill-in Clipping Plane tool, enabling users to generate filled sectional views and diagram-style visuals within the software environment. Instead of hollow cuts, clipped areas can now be filled to produce cleaner sections, plans, elevations and conceptual diagrams without external post-processing.

On the output side, the software includes enhanced AI Image Upscaling capabilities, supporting up to 16K resolution. The feature is positioned as a means to generate large-format, print-ready visuals without extended render times or specialised hardware. The update also includes 4x scaling options and an increase in panorama slots.

Five new example scenes and templates have been added to assist both new and existing users in establishing structured starting points for projects.

Visualisation workflow: Reducing post-processing steps

In many architectural workflows, moving from a completed 3D model to a presentation-ready output involves additional stages beyond rendering. Section cuts are often exported to graphic software for filled diagrams, while large-format boards may require separate upscaling processes to achieve print resolution. Large sites can also demand time-intensive manual placement of vegetation and contextual elements.

Lumion Pro 2026.0 introduces tools designed to consolidate these steps within the visualisation environment. Filled clipping planes enable completed section visuals without external editing, while AI image upscaling supports outputs up to 16K resolution. The Area Placement Tool allows bulk vegetation distribution within defined zones.

Together, these additions emphasise workflow continuity between late-stage design refinement and final presentation delivery.

Lumion’s product ecosystem

Lumion’s broader product portfolio includes:

  • Lumion View: A real-time visualisation plugin for CAD and BIM solutions.
  • Lumion Pro: A comprehensive 3D visualisation solution for architects.
  • Lumion Cloud: A cloud-based collaboration platform for architectural projects.

Lumion Pro 2026.0 represents a continuation of the company’s focus on refining architectural visualisation workflows, with particular emphasis on reducing the gap between final modelling stages and presentation delivery.
