Rotterdam-based architecture and urban design practice MVRDV has opened its Carbon Confessions exhibition, inviting architects, designers, and the public to explore the environmental impact of design decisions. The exhibition visualises the carbon footprint associated with building materials, construction methods, and operational choices, creating an interactive narrative around sustainability in architecture.

Through installations, case studies, and real-world data, Carbon Confessions illustrates how even small design choices can significantly influence a building’s total emissions. The exhibition encourages critical reflection on material selection, spatial planning, and lifecycle impacts, positioning carbon-conscious decision-making as central to contemporary design practice.
MVRDV describes the exhibition as both a research platform and an educational experience, highlighting the studio’s commitment to transparency and accountability in architectural practice. The show is accompanied by workshops and programs targeting professionals, students, and policymakers, fostering discussion on actionable strategies for reducing environmental impact in the built environment.
Carbon Confessions runs through 12 March at the Keilepand (Keilestraat 9f, 3029 BP Rotterdam), emphasising the urgency of integrating sustainability considerations into all stages of architectural and urban design.
